12:37PM Monday
March 11, 2013

Former Ten Years After guitarist Alvin Lee has died. According to a message posted on his official website, "Alvin unexpectedly passed away early this morning after unforeseen complications following a routine surgical procedure. We have lost a wonderful, much loved father and companion, [and] the world has lost a truly great and gifted musician." Lee was 68.

Most famous for his 11-year stint with Ten Years After -- a band he co-founded in 1962 under the name The Jaybirds-- Lee catapulted to fame after performing with the band at Woodstock. He left Ten Years After in 1973 due to creative differences and went on to work with many music greats, including Mick Fleetwood and Ronnie Wood, before fronting his own band, Alvin Lee & Company, which continued to tour and release music as recently as last year.
